Description
The Original Flying Turtle is everyone's favorite sit-skate scooter! It's simple to zip along any hard, smooth surface. No motor, no batteries, no pedaling. Rated as one of the Top 10 Toys by Parents Magazine, it is sturdy enough to hold 150 pounds. Tubular steel handlebars and super-fast wheel bearings prove its outstanding quality. Good news, it comes completely assembled and with a one year warranty for home use. Sit on the heavy-duty molded seat, put your feet on the bar, and simply swing the handlebars from side to side. You're off and rolling! So compactly built, it turns on its own radius.
Homegrown History
Originally designed by a retired Boeing engineer in the 1970's...this grandfather used his engineering know-how and a tractor seat he found on his farm to create a prototype model for his grandson. Look closely and you can see how the Flying Turtle seat of today resembles the shape of yesterday's tractor seat.
Yes! It's US-made
This high quality ride-on is manufactured by Tennessee manufacturer. A lot of love and care goes into every scooter and it shows. It is a toy you can pass down to your grandchildren. Perhaps you are one of many adults who remembers riding one as a child.
How's IT Go?
We're still trying to figure this one out! The unique method of propulsion has made our scooter the subject of studies in Experimental Nonlinear Physics around the world.
The scientific explanation goes something like this:
'The front wheels of the machine are connected to the handlebars by a lever, in
such a way that they are located behind the axis of rotation of the steering
column. This means that a torque applied to the handlebars will cause a lateral
friction force by the wheels on the ground, a force parallel to the axle and
perpendicular to the direction the wheels are rolling. If a component of this force
points to the back of the car, the reaction force of the ground on the car (by
Newton's 'action/reaction' law) points partly forward and accelerates the car. This
Is the force that drives the car forward and it ultimately comes from the force you
exert on the handlebars, magnified by the lever advantage, which is 2 or 3 for the
Flying Turtle'.
Now, can you repeat that?
In summary, kids put their hands and feet on the handlebars which pivot in relation to the seat and work the handlebars for propulsion by vectored torque thrust making the front wheels want to skate forward.
Safety First!
The Flying Turtle can be ridden indoors on linoleum and hardwood floors as the
polyurethane wheels are non-marring. Or take your scooter outdoors to ride on
the sidewalk, driveway and patio on concrete or smooth asphalt. Kids create their
own ride at only 2 inches off the ground.
It's low to the ground and has no sharp edges or spokes so the Flying Turtle is
probably one of the safest ride-ons for ages 3 to 12. With an eye to safe riding
guidelines, we recommend that riders wear shoes and refrain from riding down
hills or stairs or near roadways.
What about the materials? We are CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety
Improvement ACT of 2008) approved and certified. Independent materials testing
was conducted by St. Louis Testing Laboratories to make sure our product is
SAFE and may I say it we passed with 'flying' colors!
